Your company is only as strong as the employees powering it. Lately however, their output has been nowhere near your target, and this is having a negative affect on your bottom line.

As the boss, take this as your cue to step in, because if you don’t, their performance probably won’t improve. Here’s how to boost efficiency, so you can get the most from your team each day.

Learn to Delegate

It’s possible you’re inadvertently contributing to the problem. If you’re afraid to assign any important work to employees, they’re probably feeling bored and underutilized.

No doubt, taking on too much is stressing you out, just as not having enough meaningful work to do is weighing on them. You might be pleasantly surprised at what your employees can do when challenged to push themselves.

Assign Tasks Wisely

When doling out work, think twice about who you’re assigning to each task. One employee might be accustomed to completing a certain duty, but that doesn’t mean they’re the best choice. Reallocating tasks based on individual strengths can be a major productivity boost.

This will also improve employee satisfaction rates, because people are typically happier when completing tasks they’re good at. Results happen when you set your team up for success.

Set Clear Goals

If they don’t know exactly what they’re working toward, it can be hard for people to focus. Motivate your team by setting S.M.A.R.T. — specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely — goals. This will get everyone on the same page, so employees know precisely what they’re supposed to be doing. It’s much easier to move forward together when everyone knows the end goal.

Offer Performance Incentives

Keep your team from doing only the bare minimum by giving them a personal stake. For example, if the company meets its performance goals, every employee gets a bonus. When people know there’s something in it for them — besides their continued employment — they’re inspired to work their hardest.
