Right now, you’re accomplishing enough at work each day, but you want to do more. This level of ambition is admirable, but it’s important to make sure you don’t push yourself too hard. Working longer hours might be an effective solution for a while, but eventually, you’ll wear yourself down from exhaustion.

Thankfully, there are several ways to increase your production levels without actually spending more time working. Here’s how to maximize efficiency to make the most of your day.

Take Control of Your Schedule

Excellent time management is the key to productivity. Chances are, you’re inadvertently wasting a lot of time each day. From constant interruptions to meetings you don’t really need to attend, there’s probably plenty of ways to make extra room in your schedule.

Avoid this by making a task list each morning. Include a time estimate for each activity to allow for better time budgeting. Block off a few chunks of time on your calendar to work uninterrupted. During this time, close your email application, turn the ringer off on your phone and if anyone stops by your desk, politely ask them to come back later.

When you receive a meeting request, carefully review it to make sure your presence is necessary. If you determine it isn’t, decline the invite and include a polite note explaining your decision.

Manage Your Day Wisely

Like most people, you’re probably more productive during certain times of the day than others. Use this to your advantage by scheduling tasks accordingly. For example, if you focus better in the morning, complete your hardest tasks before lunch. Use the afternoon hours for meetings and other assignments that don’t require quite as much thinking. Tailoring your activities to your natural body clock will allow you to accomplish more in the same amount of time.

Keep Your Energy Levels Up

If you want to be more productive, you need all the energy you can get. Accomplish this by exercising regularly, eating healthy throughout the day, drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated and getting enough sleep each night. When you take care of your body, you’re rewarded with increased energy, so you can complete higher quality work.
