Right now, you’re happy enough in your current job. You enjoy your colleagues, respect company leadership and feel comfortable with your responsibilities. While you’re in no rush to leave your job, you don’t plan to be there forever.

Just to see what’s out there, you sometimes check job boards and visit the HR sites of companies you’re curious about. You haven’t found anything that piqued your interest yet, but you’re definitely open to it. Here are a few tips to help put yourself out there, without making any major moves.

Keep Your Resume Updated

You never know when your dream job will come along, so it’s always wise to be prepared. Revise your resume every time you learn a new skill or have a major achievement, so you’re ready to go as soon as the right opportunity becomes available. You don’t want to miss your chance because you didn’t have your act together.

Expand Your Network

Who you know can get you very far in your career. Increase your chances of meeting someone with the ability to help you get an “in” by putting yourself out there. Join a professional association, attend networking mixers and sign up for continuing education classes, seminars and workshops to broaden your contact list. You just might meet someone who will give you the big break you’ve been seeking.

Keep in Touch With Your Contacts

After working hard to cultivate a solid network, it’s important to nurture it. Stay on your contacts’ minds by reaching out on a regular basis. Extend invitations for coffee and lunch to catch up with long-time associates and bond with new ones. Pay it forward by using your own connections to help others looking for work, as people don’t forget someone who goes out of their way for them.

Maintain an Active LinkedIn Presence

The world’s largest professional network is the place to be when you’re interested in changing jobs. Update your profile, share interesting articles relevant to your field, add meaningful comments to other people’s posts, and join groups to meet even more like-minded people. Remember, not only do your connections see your activity, when they comment on your updates, their contacts see it too. This is a great way to get your name in front of the right people.
