You spent a lot of time searching for an industrial job that matches your skills and interests. Now that you’ve found it and received an invitation to interview for it, you need to arrive properly prepared. It doesn’t matter how qualified you are, if you don’t make a great impression in the interview, you won’t get the job. Being unprepared and overconfident will get you nothing but a rejection letter.

3 Ways to Prepare for Your Industrial Interview

  1. Emphasize Your Commitment to Safety

Safety is important in every work environment, but especially crucial in manufacturing. Due to the nature of the work, you will likely be dealing with heavy machinery and hazardous equipment, so potential employers need to know you’re committed to following the rules. Failing to adhere to safety guidelines can cause serious injuries or even death, so there’s no room for error.

  1. Prepare Responses to Common Interview Questions

There’s no way to predict the entire list of questions you’ll be asked during the interview, but there’s plenty of standard inquiries you can expect to answer. Make a great impression by crafting your responses in advance and practicing your delivery with a friend or family member. Anticipate questions on your ability to work as part of a team, reliability, machine handling skills and safety knowledge. For example, you may be asked what you would do if you sustained an on-the-job injury, or if you have a dependable mode of transportation.

  1. Bring Copies of Pertinent Paperwork

It’s better to be over prepared than fall short of expectations, so have a few copies of your resume with you.  You’ll also need to bring any certifications or licenses you have, as you’ll need to show them to the interviewer to prove your credentials are valid. The last thing you want is to have to admit you forgot to bring pertinent items you were expected to have on hand.
