Finally landing a job that makes you happy to go to work is an outstanding feeling. Whether you were previously unemployed or just perpetually unhappy at your previous job, it’s always a relief to find your place — now you need to retain it.

The first few weeks and months on the job are essentially a trial period, so you need to put all your effort into making a great impression. Your boss is keeping a close watch on you, so don’t do anything to raise red flags.

Show Up on Time

Punctuality is hugely important to your lasting success at this company — and any company. Even rushing in five minutes late is frowned upon, because it shows a lack of respect for the rules. If you want to stay in good standing with your boss and colleagues, you always need to make it a priority to show up on time, but this is especially paramount during you first 60 days.

Your manager doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but knowing you’re trying your best will take your career at the company a long way.

You want to become invaluable to the company, so regularly ask your boss for advice on what you’re doing well and where you could improve. This initiative will really impress your boss and it will help you polish yourself into the ideal employee. Most people don’t take the time to do this, so it will really make you shine.

Set Daily Goals and Try to Achieve Them

Challenge yourself to do outstanding work each day by setting goals at the beginning of your shift, and aiming to achieve them by the time you clock out. If you have a competitive personality, this is a fun way to push yourself to optimal performance and ensure you make the most of every shift.
