Employment in Kentucky is back to higher levels than before the recession, but you may have to rethink your career direction to take advantage of in-demand jobs. Kentucky lost more than 14,000 manufacturing jobs in the recession. While we may never return to those pre-recession levels, manufacturing is bouncing back, along with packaging, warehousing and plenty of other skilled and unskilled opportunities.

What other jobs are in demand or growing fast? Here are just a few types of jobs that are expected to have the greatest demand in Northern Kentucky in the next 8-10 years:

  • Home Health Aides
  • Medical Equipment Repair people
  • Retail Salespeople

  • Waiters and Waitresses

There is plenty of opportunity in Cincinnati, Florence, Hebron, Erlanger, and Dry Ridge, but you’ve got to know where to look and which job will be best for you. Do you prefer part time or temporary work? Do you have a specific employer in mind or dream job that you’re not sure how to qualify for? Take some time to decide which jobs or employers will be the perfect fit for you.

Research companies by looking at their website and their social media.

Ask friends and coworkers who they may know that works there or work with a staffing agency to find the best fit. Staffing agencies are in the business of knowing where the jobs are even before they are advertised. They know what projects will be coming up at key employers and what skills and experience you’ll need to be successful there. Wish you knew how to get into a certain company? Staffing professionals know the decision makers and can put you in touch with the right people.
